Aquarius (January 20-February 18)
Aquarians are one of the most likable characters of the zodiac. These are the people that know and chat with everyone at work, in their neighborhoods, at the bowling alley or where ever else they happen to be. Thereís a simple reason for this, Aquarians are Social and you can say that with a capital S. Usually blessed with great senses of humor and an innate friendliness, any meet and greet situation is an Aquarian forte. Their seemingly endless talent for popularity is due to a combination of factors, the foremost of which is that they really like people. They love to interact with others, whether itís exchanging witty banter or discussing the latest controversial issue.
The need to communicate is a strong Aquarian drive; this is due to Aquarius being one of the three Air elemental signs, the other two being Gemini and Libra. Air signs need to express and absorb ideas from others. Read that again. Youíll note I didnít say they want to express and absorb ideas from others, I said they need to! It is exactly that, a need, in the same way that food is needed to sustain the body, air signs, in this case Aquarians, need communication and social interaction to sustain themselves. Now a person needing people isnít exactly a new idea. It would be accurate to say that every person no matter what their sign needs other people in some respect, but whatís interesting about Aquarians is that while they need lots of social interaction and they truly like people they do not need or necessarily want true emotional intimacy. Now, before all of you Aquarian enthusiasts scream in protest, take a close look at that friendly, fun Aquarian whoís always ready to go for lunch, or have you over for coffee. They love to chat and theyíre more than willing to give you an ear when you need to pour your heart out to someone, but whenís the last time you saw them cry, or they discussed their fears, secrets or innermost feelings with you? Hasnít happened? Donít take it personally; itís just not their nature. The reason for this goes back to the air element. Air signifies the intellect in astrology, just as water signifies the emotions, earth the practical, and fire the physical. Aquarians therefore are ruled primarily through their intellect not their emotions and while they certainly are not cold, heartless people, they are definitely more the Mr. Spocks, than the Captain Kirks of the zodiac. If you think about it Mr. Spock was a pretty neat guy. He was smart, loyal, down to earth (so to speak-ha), and a great friend, and anyone out there lucky enough to have an Aquarian buddy will find them to be all this, and a heck of a lot of fun too! If youíre hoping for a bit more than a good buddy relationship with an Aquarian, just be aware that while they can make great, solid, loving partners they are somewhat cooler emotionally than some signs and are not the type to look deep into your eyes, call you their soul mate and want to share all their feelings with you or anyone.
Positive Aquarian Traits: Outgoing, intelligent, adventurous, loyal, idealistic, independent, stable, kind, even-tempered, curious
Negative Aquarian Traits: Stubborn, unemotional, gullible, judgmental, overly independent, grudge holding
Aquarian Career Suggestions: Doctor/nurse, scientist, business administration, sales, communication
Aquarian Friendship Compatible Signs: Leo, Libra, Gemini, Scorpio
Aquarian Love Compatible Signs: Gemini, Libra, Sagittarius, Aries
Pisces (February 19-March 20)
Pisces are in a word, complex. The best way to explain why Pisces are the mysterious creatures they are, is to look at the Piscean role in the zodiac. Each of the signs in the zodiac represents a stage of life. The first sign is Aries and as such it represents infancy. Aries like infants are strong-willed, focused (think of a baby who wants to be fed), self-involved etc. As you move through the signs, first through twelfth, so you move through the stages of life; from infancy to senior citizen. Pisces is the twelfth and last sign of the zodiacal wheel. It is representative of senior citzenhood and just as a senior has passed through each stage of life; learning and changing as they encompass all the previous stages, so does Pisces encompass all the previous signs within itself. This fact alone would be enough to make Pisces a complicated sign, but there is another factor which combines with this to truly cause the fish amongst us to be amazingly multifaceted people.
The second key aspect to consider in examining Pisces is their element; water. In astrology water signifies emotion. Just as real fish swim, breathe and live in water; Pisces natives swim, breathe and live in their emotions. If youíve known a Pisces even casually the first thing youíre likely to have noticed about them is how sensitive they are. This sensitivity displays itself in various ways; they are easily hurt, unusually empathetic and spookily intuitive. The reason for Pisces super sensitivity is their highly attuned emotional awareness. Air signs, such as the one before Pisces, Aquarius, deal with and view the world primarily through their intellect, theyíre thinkers. Fire signs, such as Aries deal with the same world physically, theyíre doers. Pisces and the other two water signs, Cancer and Scorpio deal with and see the world emotionally, theyíre feelers. Everyone has struggled with strong emotions at times, whether it is love, anger or fear. In order to even begin to understand a Pisces you have to imagine what itís like to approach and react to every situation first and foremost emotionally. There are advantages to the Pisces emotional, feeling way of life, but itís definitely not always easy for them to face the rather cruel world we live in. Feeling things so strongly tends to set a Piscesís priorities in a different order than the less sensitive signs. This is why our fish friends are not necessarily the most practical or ambitious of people, anxious to climb to the top of the rat race. This does not mean however that they are not extremely talented and capable. They are often some of the most talented people in the world and are usually sickeningly gifted in one or more of the arts. If you have any doubts about this, study up on just how many of the worldís most famous painters, musicians, actors, and writers have been born under the Pisces sun sign, itís a fairly incredible percentage. It makes perfect sense to, if you think about where art derives from; emotion.
Yes, Pisces great emotional awareness combined with their wisdom from having passed through all the stages of zodiac life makes for one powerfully creative sign. The downside for Pisces is that life can be unkind to all of us and their extreme emotional sensitivity can make the everyday ups and downs of daily living especially hard for them to bear. Itís important for Pisces to be aware that their sign has a higher than normal rate of drug and alcohol abuse and to be cautious of the fish tendency to try and hide and withdrawal from reality. Running away and hiding is a natural reaction for a Piscean to have to pain or fear, after all if you look at their real life fish counterparts what other defense mechanisms do they have, but to swim away and hide?
It would be easy to write on and on about Pisceans, because theyíre truly an intriguing sign, but for now Iíll close with a personal observation Iíve made about my many fish friends; theyíre often convinced theyíre psychic, and to be honest Iím not so sure theyíre wrong about that! Either way one thing I know is if youíve ever heard or ever hear someone using the _expression, ďheís an old soulĒ to describe someone, theyíre more than likely talking about a Pisces.
Positive Piscean Traits: Creative, empathetic, highly intuitive, perceptive, capable, kind, entertaining, soft-spoken, talented, good-natured, generous
Negative Piscean Traits: Manipulative, indecisive, impractical, secretive, overly sensitive, complaining
Piscean Career Suggestions: Artist, actor, musician, writer, teacher, psychologist, librarian
Piscean Friendship Compatibles: Cancer, Scorpio, Leo, Aquarius, Libra
Piscean Love Compatibles: Cancer, Scorpio, Gemini, Libra
Aries (March 21-April 19)
Aries are born leaders and they know it. Fiercely independent, headstrong and focused Aries see something they want and go after it, full-force. This is not the sign of the weak-willed or feign of heart. Aries, like their counterpart in the animal kingdom, the ram, arenít afraid to charge into life and wonít mind butting heads with anything or anyone who gets in their way. The fact is they love a challenge, whether it be standing up to a bully or putting their skis on and launching themselves off the highest slope, they wonít hesitate.
The best way to describe the rams of the zodiac is to use verbs. This is because Aries is a sign of action. You wonít find many sitting on the couch. They want to be out there doing and participating, preferably at the front of the pack. Theirs is a cardinal, fire sign which in astrology lingo means they want to lead the action. Aggressive, self-assured, impatient and impetuous they would much rather give direction then take it and their natural inclination is not to stop and consider, but to move and act.
Aries are often highly intelligent, but rarely contemplative. They do everything fast from thinking to talking and walking. An easy way to pick out an Aries is to look for the person who always seems to be in a rush to get going, get started, or get there. These tendencies can lead them to become severely frustrated with slower more cautious people. Fortunately, the ram is blessed with a quick wit and a genuineness that typically charms others into happily following along, even allowing him to prod them into hurrying, towards the latest Aries adventure.
Outgoing and ambitious Aries are definitely not the shrinking violets of the zodiac. Whether at work or play they give one hundred percent and are determined to be the best. It should come as no surprise that with their tireless drive and work ethic they generally succeed at whatever they strive to do. This does not mean however that the ramís path to success is always an easy one. Their lack of caution, impatience and at times arrogance can cause them to slam into a few walls headfirst on the way to their goals. It wonít faze them though, Aries are eternal optimists. They will get up and charge ahead in the same manner again and again convinced that this time they will make it to the top and guess what, eventually they almost always do!
Aries Positive Traits: Adventurous, active, ambitious, brave, optimistic, hard-working, quick witted, honest, direct, independent, confident, charming
Aries Negative Traits: Arrogant, impatient, overly-aggressive, insensitive, gullible, hard-headed, quick tempered
Aries Career Recommendations: Professional athlete, executive, broker, military leader, stunt person, wilderness guide
Aries Friendship Compatibles: Leo, Sagittarius, Aquarius, Gemini
Aries Love Compatibles: Sagittarius, Gemini, Leo, Capricorn
Taurus (April 20-May 20)
Taurusís are the salt of the earth. So what does that mean? Well, to understand that statement and get a handle on knowing the Taurus, you just need to think of two things; the earth and the bull. Letís start with the earth part. How do we think of the earth? Itís our foundation, our well-spring, a source of fulfillment for our physical needs. We call it Mother Earth for a reason, because it nurtures and provides for us, itís always there solid and dependable, patiently supporting us. This is a very apt description of a Taurus as well. They are the rock-solid; friends, spouses, parents etc. in their loved ones lives. They, like the earth, rarely shift or change and can always be counted on to be a loyal, concrete base of support.
So far they sound like great people, and they are, but there is more to them than an earthy nature, so letís take the bull by the horns shall we? (hee, hee-sorry couldnít resist) Seriously though, the bull being the symbol for Taurus is hardly a coincidence. It is in fact their perfect representative. Bulls are solid, strong, methodical creatures that stake out their territory, and if disturbed from their slow, patient grazing, give a warning snort and then charge with head down, fury. Other signs of the zodiac would be wise to pay close attention to the info that can be gleaned from watching the real life bull. Taurusís are patient people, willing to put up with a seemingly endless amount of aggravation with nary a word of retort. Because of this, some people make the mistake of thinking that they are easy targets, and continuously tease or lash out at their bullish acquaintances, failing to heed the last minute warning the Taurus finally throws out. Well let me tell you, the unfortunate soul that manages to rile a Taurus into a true bull like rage, will never make this mistake again! Taurusís are slow to anger, but when they get there it is a sight to behold (from a distance), and they do not cool off quickly. If you donít believe me, go ahead and keep nudging that quiet, tranquil Taurus you know. Go into his office or room and move around his possessions or if you really want to piss him off bother him while heís eating.
One sure way to recognize a Taurus is to look for someone who loves food, and I do mean Loves. Taurusís are usually excellent cooks and when theyíre not cooking or eating they love to think and talk about food. They are the only people I know who sit down for a meal with you and are completely focused on savoring the food, to the exclusion of conversing or sometimes even looking up from their plate. Next time you dine with one, watch and youíll see what I mean. Itís an amusing Taurus quirk.
Food isnít the only creature comfort Taurusís appreciate. Theirs is a practical and highly sensual sign. Bulls like nothing better than to sit home on a big, overstuffed, cushy chair made of a soft plush fabric, surrounded by their treasured possessions. This for a Taurus is true bliss, because they love comfort and their things are their security. It may at times be hard to entice them out of their castles, but they will venture out for a fine meal and perhaps an evening of dancing, which they typically excel at. Music appeals very much to bulls; it soothes them. Before you start thinking that Taurusís are complete boring homebodies, visit one and you may find that surrounded by the sensual, luxuriousness that is the Taurus abode you donít want to leave either.
Taurean Positive Traits: Stable, loyal, dependable, focused, good-listeners, sensual, nurturing, patient, practical, level-headed, comforting, empathetic
Taurean Negative Traits: Stubborn, grudge-holding, over-indulgent, lazy, slow to change, territorial, possessive, envious
Taurean Career Suggestions: Doctor, building contractor, interior design, chef, musician, masseuse, architect
Taurean Friendship Compatibles: Virgo, Capricorn, Leo, Gemini
Taurean Love Compatibles: Virgo, Capricorn, Leo, Aquarius, Scorpio
